Why study in Luxembourg?

Luxembourg is a small, wealthy and highly international country at the heart of Europe. Programs are offered in English, French and German, which suits many students from bilingual Cameroon. Its location makes it easy to connect with the rest of Europe during and after your studies.

Step by step: how non-EU students come to study in Luxembourg

  1. Apply for a temporary authorisation to stay before travelling. Students from outside the EU must apply before they travel. Applications from inside Luxembourg are not accepted.
  2. Wait for the Ministry’s decision. The Ministry normally responds in about 60 days, so apply early.
  3. Travel and arrive. Once approved, you can arrange any visa needed and travel to Luxembourg.
  4. Complete a medical check after arriving.
  5. Apply for your residence permit within 3 months of arrival. The residence permit fee is EUR 80.

Money, work and insurance

  • Proof of resources: you must prove monthly resources of at least 80% of the “social inclusion income” (REVIS).
  • Working while you study: you may work an average of 15 hours per week outside study time.
  • Health insurance: health insurance is required.

Rules and amounts change. Always confirm current requirements on the official Luxembourg government portal, guichet.lu, before you apply.

Questions from students in Cameroon and Nigeria

Can I study in Luxembourg in French?

Yes, some programs are taught in French, and others in English or German. As a bilingual Cameroonian student you may have more choice than you expect. We will match programs to your languages.

Can I apply for the temporary authorisation from Cameroon?

You must apply before travelling, and applications from inside Luxembourg are not accepted. We will explain how to submit your application from home and which official channel handles it.

I am from Nigeria. Is the process the same?

The core steps for non-EU students are the same. We will confirm any country-specific details for your application on the official government sources.

Do you guarantee my authorisation or permit?

No. Schools decide admissions and the Luxembourg authorities decide on authorisations and permits. We help you prepare the strongest application possible.
